KL0TW: Not this one. It was from a medical unit.
KL0TW: Not used much except for training.
WB5KAN: If I had my 6KW generator here I would be trying
to get it running from wood gas.
KL0TW: Cool. I also still have my 5kw Onan diesel that I
will get running again this spring.
WB5KAN: Looks like you guys are setup for generators

KL0TW: I am glad too. It sets right beside my boiler room.

Jurian: only a few switches on it.. Local/DX; 4 Watt/ 0.5
Watt; channels, squelch, rf gain, mic gain, power / s meter; 4
watt (or 100 if I want) :)
KL0TW: Cool. More than I got. I like the power thing.

Jurian: oh, and there's 2 LED's on it.. AWI and TX
WB5KAN: I'm back ... my transceiver can receive the CB
channels but can't transmit on them. There is a wire I can cut
that will allow me to transmit anywhere from 500KHz to 30MHz ...
I'll have to find it one of these days.
Jurian: no idea what AWI is though.. never on :)

obany: i saw some CB radios in a magazine, they look okay
to me .

WB5KAN: Problem with CB is it's frequency, which is about
the same as the 10 meter ham band.
WB5KAN: Lately, with the sunspot cycle almost at it's peek
10 meters is open around the world and so is CB, I'm sure (skip).
Jurian: yeah.. shitloads of skip.. bad :(
KL0TW: Back ....... yes, too much skip almost. Nothing but
noise.
WB5KAN: This morning I finally got the latest version of
the AOL Instant Messenger software working so I can see when my
family is around.

KL0TW: I have that, but don't use it.
WB5KAN: That is when you need a narrow beam antenna ...
more to take out the interference than increase the received
signal strength.

KL0TW: I would love to build one, but it would be a big
sucker.
Jurian: friend of me has a 7 element beam for CB .. now
THAT is huge !! :)
WB5KAN: If you think one for CB (11 mtrs) is big, how
about one for 20 or 40 meters!

KL0TW: 11 mtrs is about 36 feet I think.
Jurian: though my stupid home made 11 mtrs antenna (which
is in face 6.5 meters) is big enough hehe
KL0TW: I boughtthe radio shack special. With a 102 inch on
my car.
WB5KAN: Well, the elements are half the wave length ... so
a 10 meter antenna would have elements 5 meters in length.
Jurian: I have the cheapest antenna you can get.. just a
bunch of copper wire :-) but it works fine
obany: how far do you reach wich it, Jurian ?
Jurian: obany: depends.. sometimes about 6 KM, sometimes
20 or more..
Jurian: and sometimes 50, if I turn my 100 watt on and put
the antenna outside instead of inside :)
WB5KAN: When you get your ham ticket, you can use 2000
watts.
Jurian: I can hear stations from all over the world..
though them #*$&)@#*$ italians always are the loudest here..

WB5KAN: Yea, you can get a nasty RF burn if you touch the
end of a center fed dipole that's transmitting.
KL0TW: You could stick hot dogs on the elements and cook
them for lunch
